Prayer: God of overwhelming love and grace, in this Christmas season we come before you in prayer. We remember how you chose to live among us, declaring that our world was a worthy place for you, the Creator, to be present. And so, at this time, we pray for the world and for all who live in it. We especially think this day of those for whom this is a difficult time. For those who are missing loved ones who have died, or are far away. For those who are unable to be surrounded by others and who struggle with all the emphasis on family and togetherness in this season. We think of all for whom the emphasis on “stuff” simply underscores not having enough. And we think of how grateful we are that you have sent Jesus into our world and into our lives. How might we reflect his message in our daily living? How might we share with others the true joy that Christ brings into our lives? How can we—like all creation— offer you the praise you deserve? Open our hearts, loving God. Stretch our understandings of our world that we might find new ways to travel with others in the days to come. We pray in the name of the Christ. Amen. (A prayer from a service from Seasons of the Spirit 2015)

Carol. Away in a Manger #69VU
Message
Prayer: Lord, in the beginning when all was very dark, you said: “Let there be light.” And there was light and life throughout the universe.
And when the human race was exhausted, tired and weary, in the darkness of anxiety, confusion and sin, into that darkness you came as light in Jesus Christ God became a human being among us all.
Once again it is dark. Not just dark at midnight but dark in ourselves: dark with doubt, dark with fear and uncertainty, dark with confusing and conflicting voices in our ears.
Come, light of life, lighten the darkness in our lives with your mighty word of love. Lighten our hearts with the joy of your promised coming. Lighten our world with the hope that faith in you still brings.
We go out into Christmas Day in the peace of Jesus Christ. May his peace, that lightens the soul with faith, lifts the spirit with hope and leaven’s the world with love, be yours tonight and always.
And the blessing of God, the Creator, the Son and the Spirit, go with you, and remain with you, now and always. Amen. ( a prayer by John Harvey, printed in the Iona Community’s Candles and Conifers.)

Prayer: God, as your children, in this season of Advent, we wait in prayer
We pray for hope— that we may be filled once again with the hope of a child;
And that we may bring hope to those who despair.
We pray for peace— that we may be filled once again with the profound peace of a child;
And that we may bring peace to those close to us, in our community and around the world; to those for whom peace is only a dream.
We pray for joy— that we may be filled once again with the boundless joy of a child;
And that we may bring joy to those who live in darkness.
We pray for love— that we may be filled once again with the unconditional love of a child;
And that we may bring the full expression of your love to our families, to our community and to your world.
For all this, we pray through Jesus Christ— your child and our Saviour, who comes “with the dawn of redeeming grace”. Amen. (Source ? found in a service prepared by Paul Sales)
